Knowing where to go and what to expect makes the day calmer and faster. Confirm your polling station ahead of time so you are not searching on the day.
How to confirm your registration & station
The official channels for confirming your registration details and assigned polling station (the IEBC verification service and any USSD short code) must be confirmed against the current IEBC guidance before this is presented as authoritative.
What to bring:
- Your original national ID or valid passport — the document you registered with.
- Patience for the queue, and water if it is hot.
- Nothing bearing party colours, logos or slogans.
The steps at the station, in broad terms:
- Join the correct queue for your station and stream.
- An official confirms your identity against the register.
- You receive your ballot paper(s).
- You mark your choice in private, in the polling booth.
- You place your ballot in the correct sealed box.
Counting is done in the open
After polls close, votes are counted at the station in front of party agents and observers, results are recorded on official forms, and tallies move up to constituency and national level. Watching this happen — and documenting anything that looks wrong — is part of protecting the vote.
